# Test: AF IDX Property Search

AF IDX lets visitors search the listings available through your website's connected MLS feed. This guide explains how to choose a location, narrow the results, use the map, and save a search.

**Before you start:** This guide covers AgentFire IDX, not third-party IDX tools. Your site's colors, layout, available listing types, and registration prompts may differ from the examples below. MLS coverage and any search restrictions on your site also affect which properties appear.

### 1. Open the property search

Open your website's property-search page. Some sites also have a compact search widget on the homepage or another page. Use that widget to enter your initial criteria and open the full search results.

The main search page includes a location field, listing results, and a **Filters** button. Depending on the site's layout, the map appears beside the listings or above a grid of property cards.

### 2. Choose a location

1. Click the location field, which may display **Enter City, Address or Zip**.
2. Start typing a city, address, or ZIP code. Wait for the suggestion list to appear.
3. Select the matching suggestion. Check the location type shown beside it so you do not select a neighborhood, county, or school district when you meant a city.
4. If needed, click **Search** to load the results.

The available suggestions depend on the data connected to your website. If a location does not appear, check the spelling and try a broader area within your MLS coverage.

### 3. Narrow the results with filters

1. Open **Filters** beside the results.
2. Choose **For Sale**, **For Rent**, or **Sold**, if those options are available on your site.
3. Set the minimum or maximum **Price**. Click outside a typed price field and check that the intended value remains in place.
4. Choose the number of **Beds**. Where the panel says “Tap 2 numbers to select a range,” select both endpoints. For example, selecting **3** and **4** creates a three-to-four-bedroom range.
5. Choose **Baths**. A selection such as **2+** means at least two bathrooms.
6. Adjust other available criteria, such as listing type, listing status, square footage, or year built.
7. Click **Apply** and wait for the listings to refresh.

Filters work together. Adding more criteria can reduce the number of matching properties. Use **Reset** in the filter panel to clear its selections, then apply the change. Also check the location and any map area you have selected.

Not every MLS provides the same fields or supports the same listing categories. A missing option does not necessarily indicate a problem with the search.

### 4. Change the result order

Open the sort menu above the listings. In the examples shown here, the available choices are **Newest**, **Lowest Price**, and **Highest Price**. Choose an option and wait for the results to reload.

Sorting changes the order of the results, not the criteria used to find them. Use the page numbers or **Next** below the listings to see additional results.

### 5. Browse map and grid layouts

#### Map beside the listings

In this layout, the map appears beside the property list. You can compare listing locations with the property cards and open a listing for more information.

In the grid layout, property cards appear in rows below the map. If the page includes **Hide Map**, click it to make more room for the cards. Click **Show Map** to bring the map back.

The layout is part of your site's setup. Do not expect every website to offer a button that switches between these two layouts. On smaller screens, the map and controls may be arranged differently.

#### Use the map controls

- **Zoom and move:** Use the plus and minus controls to zoom, or drag the map to view another area.
- **Map search:** Some layouts include a control labeled **Toggle Map Search**. This is separate from simply moving the map. Check this control when you want to search the visible map area.
- **Draw an area:** Where the **Draw** control is available, click points around the area you want to search, then click the first point again to close the outline. Wait for the listings to update. Use the **Delete** control to remove the drawn area.

Do not assume that panning or zooming alone has changed your search. Wait for the results to settle and check the result count and active criteria.

### 6. Save a search or favorite a property

Click **Save Search** to keep a search, or the heart icon on a property to mark it as a favorite. These features use a visitor account. If you are not signed in, the site may open a registration or sign-in prompt.

Use **Sign In** if you already have an account. If you are creating one, follow the options shown on that website. Completing the account form is a separate step from entering your search criteria.

### 7. Use VIP Home Search, if enabled

Some websites also offer **VIP Home Search**, where visitors describe what they are looking for instead of starting with individual filters.

1. Open the site's VIP Home Search page.
2. Enter a location and the main requirements in plain language, such as “California City, California, 3 bedrooms, under $750,000.”
3. Click **Find My Dream Home**.
4. Follow any account prompt, then review the search criteria and results. Adjust the filters if the interpreted bedroom range, price, or location does not match what you intended.

Reviewing the interpreted criteria matters: a plain-language request should not be treated as a guarantee that every detail has been understood exactly as intended.

### Troubleshooting

#### No properties match the search

Start with a broader search in a location your MLS covers. Clear restrictive filters, remove any drawn map area, and check the listing category and status. Add your filters back one at a time. Site-level search restrictions can also limit what visitors see; see [Search Restrictions Tool](https://support.agentfire.com/en/search-restrictions-tool).

#### The results did not change after editing a filter

Reopen **Filters** and check that your values were retained. Confirm that you clicked **Apply** and waited for loading to finish. If a popup covers the button, close the popup and try again.

#### Moving the map did not change the listings

Check whether the layout provides a map-search toggle or a drawn-area control. Moving the map and applying a geographic search are not always the same action.

#### A feature shown here is missing

Check that the site uses AF IDX and that the feature is enabled for that site. Available data, controls, and registration requirements can differ by MLS and website setup. See the [AF IDX FAQ](https://support.agentfire.com/en/af-idx-frequently-asked-questions) for more information.

#### You still need help

Send AgentFire Support the search-page URL, the location and filters you selected, what you expected, and what happened instead. Include a screenshot and whether the issue occurs on desktop or mobile. If it happens only after a particular filter is added, identify that filter.
